Hello lipoic acid fans!

My name is Karyn Young and I am the President of GeroNova Research Inc. As some of you already know, we specialize in the manufacture, stabilization and research of R-lipoic acid and related products.

Please feel free to ask any us questions regarding this material and our products which either I, or our head of R&D, David Carlson, will be pleased to answer to the best of our abilities.

Thanks for your interest.

Hi Karyn,

What was the idea behind GeroNova introducing the R Plus w/NAC (http://www.nexternal.com/relentless/Product263) and R Plus w/Bio-Curcumin (http://www.nexternal.com/relentless/Product262)? Are these products sustained release like the Mito-GOLD (http://www.nexternal.com/relentless/Product88) and R-PLUS (http://www.nexternal.com/relentless/Product116) liquid-caps?

With all the press on curcumin lately, it seems to be a "must use" supplement. I use and like your Curcumin w/R-PLUS 2 capsules AM/PM.

Thanks!
Pete

Hi Pete,

Great questions, thanks.

Re R+NAC: Since many people who are taking R-lipoic acid are also already taking NAC, we thought we would combine them since together they increase serum and tissue thiol levels, boost intracellular cysteine for glutathione (GSH) synthesis and increase the reducing power of the plasma.

The mixture acts as a powerful free radical scavenger and essential component of the liver's detoxification process.

By the way, more about NAC:

N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) is the N-acetyl derivative and more efficiently absorbed and used form of the amino acid, L-cysteine, a naturally occurring, sulfur-containing (sulfhydryl) amino acid.

N-acetyl cysteine has antioxidant properties, and is an important precursor in the production of glutathione (GSH) in the body. Glutathione is the regulator and regenerator of immune cells and the most valuable detoxifying agent in the human body. Oral glutathione supplements are virtually ineffective, since glutathione is a protein and is digested in the stomach before reaching the blood stream or tissues of the body.

Re R+ Curcumin: Another synergistic combination.

You will be reading and hearing more and more about the benefits of curcumin in the months (and years) to come. It is however, quite difficult to absorb. The curcumin we are using in our product is 'Bio-Curcumax' with exceptionally high bio-availability (like our lipoic acid!). It's the only curcumin that reaches levels 7-9 times higher in the plasma and is sustained there longer compared to standard curcumin.

Here are some of the health applications of Curcumin:

Anti-Inflammatory (Anti-Arthritic)
Anti-Tumor
Anti-Septic
Anti-Allergic
Anti-Cancer
Promotes increased wound healing
Enhances important detoxification enzymes
Reduces inflammation by lowering histamine levels and possibly by increasing production of natural cortisone by the adrenal glands.

Curcumin has been shown to reduce platelets from clumping together, which in turn improves circulation to support cardiovascular health.

Neither R+NAC or R+Curcumin is a sustained release product (both come as powdered caps) and the benefits actually come from entering the body quickly and achieving high plasma levels. More on this topic later.

Hi Karyn!

I love your R-Plus. It's reduced the pain in my shoulders and neck dramatically, and I find that I pretty much stopped getting colds. I was wondering, how do the antioxidant properties of Lipoic Acid compare to that of Vitamins C, E, Beta-Carotene and the like?

Thanks,
Nico.

Hi Nicole,

Glad you like the product and that it is working so well for you. The question you ask is a hard one to answer (with real facts that can be backed up by studies) and in fact David Carlson is writing a whole paper on this and other ways in which lipoic acid actually works, but we can’t write about all that right now in the forum.
Stay Tuned! (Plus, those are vitamins and LA is not classified as a vitamin...although it probably should be).

Karyn

See the enhanced bioavailability provided by the BCM-95 Curcumin in GeroNova's R-Plus Curcumin (http://www.nexternal.com/relentless/Product262) product:

I have a question. I heard that R-dihydro-lipoic acid is the reduced (or active) form of R-lipoic acid. R-dihydro-lipoic acid produces the majority of the results attributed to R-lipoic acid and alpha-lipoic acid. Is that correct? Would affect my treatment if I would take some herbs and vitamins (http://relentlessimprovement.com) in the same time?

No. Do not use RDHLA by itself. Geronova Research is currently suggesting a combination of RLA and RDHLA be used. The RLA and RDHLA act to recycle each other.
